New Play: Staged Reading of Catrina and Posada from Nov 2023 Now on Vimeo to Preview

Synopsis José Guadalupe Posada sits alone in his simple Mexico City apartment drinking tequila as he has done for years at the end of each calendar year. He is despondent, having a bit of an existential crises, questioning the worth of his life’s work, when he is suddenly visited by a mysterious yet familiar messenger. It is his creation known now as la Catrina. Has she come to comfort him? Or perhaps this calavera has a bone to pick with him on some hot issues? Real or dream, a debate ensues to a final dance in the grave. It's a work in progress but you can watch what we have so far! Arlington Museum of Art, Arlington, TX to Exhibit José Guadalupe Posada- Legendary Printmaker of Mexico

This is the first showing of the full new exhibition which includes many cultural and historical elements contained in the imagery created by Posada as exhibited over the last five years in the traveling exhibition José Guadalupe Posada- Legendary Printmaker of Mexico but expands on a variety of themes based upon suggestions and inquiries from curators and attendees alike. See illustrations by Posada recording the attitudes of his time exposing racism, LBGTQ rights and social injustice, plus selected works by contemporary artists influemce by Posada.
